He has had an illustrious career in Rotary. DDG John Soe demonstrated the features of the new Rotary International website. Unfortunately the Internet connection at the venue was extremely slow so John resorted to showing a video tutorial revealing the design features of the new website. The new Rotary website is in the same place i.e. at www.Rotary.org. On the homepage the President and Secretary need to update the Club goals and progress against those goals. The website has been designed so that there are multiple paths to get to key information. Registration is not necessary but it is advantageous. The headings include: My Rotary, Exchange Ideas, Take Action, Learning & Reference, Manage, The Rotary Foundation, Member News. My Rotary page is a ‘dashboard’ that is expected to grow over time as the functionality is improved. In the Rotary Club Central section (under My Rotary) club presidents and secretaries can access Semi-Annual Reports (SAR) data and the status of SAR dues. This tab also provides members with the opportunity to view and track membership, Rotarian engagement, club communication, and public relations goals. Amongst other things the graphs show membership trends over the past five years. Information for the District is also available. ROTARY CLUB JAKARTA – ID 16325 The Bulletin of

[ RCJ Bulletin Vol. 1314-19, Page 2 of 4 ] Exchange Ideas: The first option is “Discussion groups” that allows Rotarians to connect with other Rotary members by joining a discussion group or starting a new one. It’s possible within the new website to have discussions that are limited to Rotary members only as opposed to using Linked-In or Facebook where other users don’t understand Rotary terminology and practice. In the Community Marketplace Rotarians can share the tools they create. As well as facilitating Rotarians to Find a Rotary club when travelling, “Club connections” gives Rotarians the chance to develop skills like public speaking, project management, and event planning while meeting interesting people from around the world. From providing information about the International Convention (in Sydney, Australia, 1-4 June 2014) to information on training and meetings, the Rotary “Events” option offers members a chance to meet face to face and exchange ideas. Take action: This is the place where project information is contained and is based on the project cycle. Rotarians can develop projects, apply for grants and browse completed projects to see what Rotary is accomplishing across the globe. Rotarians can participate in a project by making a donation that will help fund a project and strengthen its impact. Also under this section Rotarians can empower leaders in various ways to show that not everything that Rotarians can take action on relates to projects. Learning & resources: In this section Rotarians can Learn About Rotary, - Learning by Role or Learning by Topic – Policies & Procedures, Document Center, Webinars and Rotary News. Manage: This section contains Club and District Administration; Tools and templates that contains information on Logos and apps amongst other things; travel and expenses and products where you can access the Rotary shop merchandise. The Rotary Foundation: under the TRF section, Rotarians can apply for grants and Give donations, and learn about Rotary history. The new Rotary website has lots of redundancy built into it on purpose because different people think about tasks in different ways. The architecture is cleaner, simpler and more transparent than the old website. PP Malcom moved to a vote of thanks to John noting that the new website very interesting but that it was reassuring that John was available to explain in more detail when we ran into problems. 2 Member’s Floor 1 Pres. Leo advised the meeting that next week’s meeting would be the last meeting for the year and meetings will resume on 7th January 2014. 2 Next week’s meeting will be the Christmas meeting and future Rotarian Anne will take photographs to make a Season’s Greetings card. Female Rotarians are asked to dress in Red below email Rotarians are asked to wear a suit with a red tie. The alternative is Batik as usual. 3 DGND. 15th December is the deadline for nominations for future District Governor for RY 2016-17 (DGND). Presently no one from our club has expressed an interest but President Leo will send an email to members who are not present in case there are other members who may be interested. Nominees need not be a member of our club but the nominee must be a Past President with not less than seven years subsequent service. 4 Balikpapan Rotary Club. Rtn Kusuma reported that the process for chartering to new Rotary Club at Balikpapan is proceeding slowly. The old club does not want to give up so it was decided to have a two separate Clubs. 10 new charter members have been identified but it seems that another 15 are needed. Rotary Club Jakarta will be the Sponsor club and meets the requirement of having at least 20 active members. 5 Past District Governor Willy Wiguna attended the 33rd anniversary of Rotary Club of Jakarta Menteng last Friday. The club has 65 members and relevant members and employed by Ernst and Young but when PDG Willy been attempted to address the E&Y members none was actually present. Pres. Leo closed the meeting at 19.53h. Renewable Energy Seminar After the Rotary Meeting closed, Committee members of the Renewable Energy seminar attended a separate meeting commencing at 20.10 pm. The members present noted that speakers will have to change certain topics so that Papua is mentioned in general terms only. Members noted that the situation has changed since the possible commercial venture has surfaced that may affect the date proposed for the Renewable Energy Seminar. The issues that may affect the date proposed for the Seminar include:  Lack of motivation among members on account of the changed circumstances,  The date of the seminar would be best determined by the availability of the key note speakers,  Certain members have noted in the past that at this time of the year it is difficult to obtain sponsorship due to the Corporate budgeting cycle.

[ RCJ Bulletin Vol. 1314-19, Page 3 of 4 ] However, the members present agreed that the sponsorship proposal /TOR should be finalised and sent to the various companies keeping the same date in the knowledge that it can be adjusted later if necessary. The version of the sponsorship proposal /TOR seeking funding should include the budget. The document sent to the speakers is to contain the TOR but no budget and is to include an invitation to speak. Members questioned how it was best to activate the organising committee. Rotarian Kusuma said he believed the ESDM venue was OK for the end of January. Rotary would have to pay a cleaning fee and organise and pay for the catering. The organising committee should meet with the Director after Rtn Kusuma contacts him The Committee meeting closed at 20.50 pm. Key issues driving Rotary Club Jakarta interest in presenting the awareness raising Renewable Energy Seminar The Energy Problem looming for the Republic of Indonesia has been expressed by PP Jacques and is repeated in part below for the benefit of Club members. The Government of Indonesia’s (GoI) planning for future energy supplies relies very heavily on non-renewable fossil fuels. The published GoI energy mix for proposed for the year 2025 is: • Coal 33% • Gas 30% • Oil 20% • N&RF 17% Biomass+Nuclear+Solar+Wind =5% • Hydro-power does not get a mention. State energy company Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) forecasts a rate of growth in electricity consumption of 8.14% pa and at this rate, consumption will double every 8.1 years but it seems it’s business as usual for PLN. The second point of concern is summed up in the following graphic showing the National Energy Council (Dewan Energi Nasional, DEN) predictions. There are two take home messages 1) the current national electricity production is claimed to be 33,000 MW however Rtn Argon points out that potential need for electricity was probably 100,000 MW even today since the shortages/brownouts and self-generation by factories has not been counted; 2) by 2023 DEN predicts that Indonesian oil will be depleted. PP Pudjadi pointed out that this was based on current exploration and production and that new technology would allow increased oil production but the current economic and governance situation was not conducive to expanding exploration and adopting new technology. Original graphic prepared by PP Jacques Kamm. In any event the end solution is that Indonesia still needs to move to renewable energy sooner rather than later. Rotary Club Jakarta has taken on the mission of raising awareness of this situation among key decision makers. (Source: Adapted from PP Jacques intended Renewable Energy Seminar presentation).
